Blogs for Borders is a blog started by a group of men who are calling for better immigration policies and border control to keep illegal aliens from entering America. This blog has a clear and stated opinion. It is anti-illegal immigration. It uses ethos as a persuasive device as it talks about the crimes (especially focusing on rape) committed by illegals. The writing on this blog comes across as very emotionally charged and often angry. This blog appears to be conservative on other issues as well as evidenced by the anti-Obama cartoon on the right side of the screen.

ReplyDeleteIn regards to the style and layout of the blog it appears evident that there is an establishment of a patriotic color scheme. A probable reflection of the blogs commitment to the country and overall patriotism. Statements highlighted in bold carry weight and importance. There are no advertisements presented but rather political cartoons and "bumper stickers". There is also a listing of related sites to the blogs4borders and an establishment of copyrights for the magazine. Various multimedia images (such as videos and pictures) add depth to each article through visual stimulation.
ReplyDeleteIn this blog, the issue of illegal immigration and how it is brought upon American politics makes a precise opinion. Constant conservative adds, such as attacks on liberal leaders opposing the Arizona immigration bill, or the many articles about Democratic candidate, Meg Whitman, and her hiring of an illegal alien prove this is an anti - illegal immigration blog. I can not agree anymore with Daryl in the blogs use of visual stimulation that make readers not just read, but watch happening of illegal immigration, which could very well create anger in those who watch it. The blog seems as though it is instilling a certain fear within the readers to persuade them to the conservative side, but also make readers think what could possibly happen in the future if the U.S. Government continues to allow illegal immigration at the rapid rate it is occurring now. Lastly, it is interesting to note that this blog has been recently posted, as elections for new government officials is less than a month a way.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very interesting blog filled with lots of information. The titles all sound very strong and interesting and could easily attract a readers attention. I also really liked how the advertisements aren't very distracting and are put off to the side leaving the more important information easily accessible to the readers. With a relatively simple layout this blog is easy to navigate and also has tagged words at the end of each post to help readers search for information on particular topics. Nice work group 1!
ReplyDeleteAdvertisements on the side interested me. There are many very right-wing organizations represented, such as the Tea Party, National Debt clock, various anti-immigration groups with very provocative headlines such as, "Border INVASION Pic." A word like 'invasion' gives off a very negative connotation, and with this word choice, the group advocating against immigration plants images in the readers' head of invasions of the past, like Nazis invading Poland. By having ads such as this on the side of an anti-immigration blog adds more focus to what the blog is trying to convey, possibly more than the articles themselves, because ads stay longer on the page than articles
ReplyDeleteI found this blog very interesting. The topic is definitely one that is very controversial in the society right now. I also like how it was easy to read, with not a lot of of distractions. Their viewpoint was very clear as well, and I like how they did not let all the advertisements get in the way of expressing their views.
ReplyDeleteI think this blog is an undesirable read. It is so one-sided that it does not offer enough information. I feel like it is only there for anti-immigration people to go and feel better about their position by reading stories and looking at videos that appeal to what they already think. The font is plain, just like the points that the site is making. The most ridiculous part to me is the image on the right which imitates a street sign of illegal immigrants crossing the border. This site is dealing with people's lives so I feel like it should be presented with a little more sensitivity in order to gain more viewers.
ReplyDeleteThe topics discussed on this blog are definitely attention grabbing. However, from the slanders thrown at the democratic party, it is evident, that only people with similar political ideals would be making recurring visits to the site. The main colors or the colors that stand out (red, white and blue) ooze of patriotism. The layout is simplistic enough that any individual would be able to read it. One thing that is repetitive and stated with intention is the fact that the blog is against illegal immigration, and this is only emphasized more by the numerous links and ads leading to other sites. In essence, this blog does what it's meant to, it gives a definite point of view.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a well put together blog as far as conveying their point. They explain at the top what they're blogging about, it is very clear by the ads that they are anti-immigration, and just skimming over the first couple articles made it very clear to me what they're saying. They definitely post articles that are meant to pull at the emotions of a reader and that will either draw the reader to want to read on, or absolutely offend them and make them want to leave.
ReplyDeleteForgive me if I sound like Mr. Obvious, but for now I notice recurring observations about the advertisements, ways to draw attention to the blogs, and ways of demonizing illegal immigrants. I think it is officially settled that they are right-wing anti-immigration supporters.
ReplyDeleteThese I think are all great points. Darylce and Puffs (ha.) make a good observation about patriotic symbolism. Many blogs I've read so far, though I agree are charged with emotion, always deal with political and criminal issues. They likely do that to make audiences believe that their blog is validly promoting the welfare of the US. Displays of patriotism may tie in with this. What else, deep down, might this group have at stake?
From browsing over the various posts I found the blog to be in favor of stronger border control. One interesting statement I read was about the correlation of crime and illegal immigration in Texas. "The disturbing news for Houston, one of three cities chosen to participate in the program, is that more than 75% of illegal residents are committing crimes (other than being here illegally). This is up from the previous year by many thousand. Nationally, about 50% of illegal aliens are committing crimes. These are astonishing statistics." I think this is interesting because it has very bold statistics; however, I can't help but feel like it is alluding to the fact that immigration into the U.S. from Mexico and other countries as well is the sole reason for this increase in crime. I think this is a one sided arguement and makes me curious as to what else outside of immigration is contributing to this increase in crime.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, let me start by saying what the logo for this political blog is trying to get across. The main color that you see is red, which traditionally means STOP, and is implying that the citizens of our nation need to stop the influx of illegal immigrants from crossing into the United States and take a stand before this issue gets any worse. The Logo also uses the patriotic approach by using red, white and blue pasted onto a symbol very similar to the shape of a policeman’s badge which also implies the thoughts and feelings of this website and how opposed to illegal aliens the creators of this blog appear to be. Finally, just the use of the word ‘borders’, whether intentional or not, will essentially make one think of the U.S./Mexican border and the dispute over border control is or isn’t the right way to go about this controversial issue
ReplyDeleteThis blog is so clearly one-sided and anti-immigration that i feel in a way it is counterproductive because people who do not share the same view will not continue to read after the first posting. Statements such as "...putting his illegal alien voting block and progressives in charge of you, your property, your lives, and the lives of your children and grand children." make issues like this seem as though these "illegal aliens" directly effects me negatively. The colors are very bold and "American" and hope to make you identify with these people because we are "similar" in that sense.

This blog is obviously very subjective on its stance on illegal immigration. I found it hard to tell if the writer was a Conservative or Democrat, because the blog seemed to insult both. A blog without a political bias can be a very good thing at times, but this almost seemed to be insulting the reader as well. All in all, it seemed like another blog the author(s) set up simply to rant about their personal opinions.
ReplyDeleteJana put my thoughts into words very well, but I will try to elaborate just a little bit more. The moment I clicked into this blog, I knew that it was one sided. The first indication was the comic of Pres. Barack Obama in the first article of the page, in which Obama calls illegal immigrants "undocumented Democrats". I understand that this is only one blog out of many right-wing blogs, and this goes out to left wing blogs as well, but this is the reason why barely any legislation gets passed in Washington. Politics is seen as a sport, rather than the combination of conflicting ideas. Midterm and regular elections are the "end of the season" so to speak, or playoffs, where both sides of the spectrum go all out on bashing and campaigning.

ReplyDeleteThis blog is talking about illegal immigrant and government policy. As I read this blog, I have a very uncomfortable feeling. I cannot attract by the argument since it is so one-sided, the subject and contents of those passages are mighty. Even the advertising on the right side gave people this impression “stand against illegal immigration”. It only posted some news that support their view, like “Rasmussen reports: Most Arizona voters still support immigration law”. However people who are interested in the new immigration policy and illegal immigrant may interest in it.
ReplyDeleteTo start off with the obvious, this is a very conservative-viewed blog, and gives off strong vibes regarding anti-Obama and and anti-illegal immigration. It presents a very biased, one-sided view and makes me question if any liberal or less severe republican views are even welcome. Jana, the quotes that you pointed out in your comments are the same ones that jumped off at me too. And Andrew, I really like how you made all those connections with the color red throughout the blog, it makes me think if "stop" is the main point that the red refers too. I personally would not on my free time respond or write on a blog that is so biased.
ReplyDeletethis blogs are more formally written than the normal blogs. All the ideas have great amount of materials and details to support. And they also have great appealing for the issues they want to talk, like the 'Illegal Immigration is No Joke', they let the people stand out and use the video to illustrate the situation. If there are more videos, i would be more prefer on these blogs
